Windows Server 2012 Versions
Windows Server 2012 comes in three versions: Windows Server 2012 Standard, Windows Server 2012 Datacenter and Windows Server 2012 Essentials.
Windows Server 2012 Standard and Datacenter are technically identical; there is absolutely no difference between them with regard to technical capabilities. The only difference involves the virtualization rights included with the license: two VMs for Standard and as many as you like for Datacenter. If you’re virtualizing, you should use Datacenter.
